  • First of all I applaud the President. Our jails and prisons are full of individuals that should be put into the mental health system rather than the judicial. Besides the human rights aspect it cost states ten times more to incarcerate someone with addiction or mental health problems than it does to treat them  on the outside.

  • Oh, how desperate a situation must be in order to swallow an entire kilo of cocaine or heroin. If just one of the dozens of balloons busted open it would lead to instant death. It's like playing Russian roulette. Lately, the cartels has been using American kids because they are more likely to get through the airport security without scrutiny.
  • Medicines too cheap? Are you kidding me? A prescription I was written a month ago which came in a generic form was $725 for a one month supply.

I named this blog the struggles and triumphs of an addict because an  addict in recovery wakes up each day not knowing which one the day will bring or if the day will bring both. Sometimes your greatest struggles are really triumphs in disguise. A situation that may seem a terrible struggle could be something that is a part of recovery and you just can't see is a triumph at the time. As a recovering addict one of the greatest struggles is psychological. When you spend years flooding your brain with chemicals that constantly release the body's natural feel good chemical Dopamine your brain, as a defensive mechanism, begins to shut the dopamine receptors down in a way. You also deplete the dopamine in your system. So, when you stop introducing the unnatural chemicals to the brain the dopamine seems used up.
