Secret to beating heroin
Heroin and even methadone are killers. The worst thing a heroin addict can do is turn to methadone. Methadone is 10 times harder to quit and takes 10 times longer.
If you want to be sober minded and not go through the torture of withdrawal I'd like to tell you my story.

If it hadn't been for turning to methadone, I'd be in jail, in a mental institution, or dead. As it is, God has blessed me for taking that step by granting me 17 (so far) wonderful years of continued life. Sure, I still have problems, just like everyone else has problems, but I thank God for every one of them because I am like everyone else now, going through normal problems, not going through 'how to get money for my shot' problems.
Those who say that taking methadone is not being clean, IMO is crazy. I'm always going to take medications for one thing or another in my life, and methadone is one of them. My antidepressant medications are another. I'm now coming up on 17 years of sobriety. I've come from sleeping on the streets (when I slept) and selling my body to going once a month and picking up my meds and then doing whatever I choose to do, with no concern about a 'next shot'. Today there isn't a 'next shot', thank God, and I pray there never will be. I travel when I want, I own a car that I had financed (I had credit!!) and now have paid for! (all by myself!!) All of that and so much more is a testament (to me) of God's grace and of how a methadone program can give someone their life back, if they work it the right way.
Of course it's not for everyone, and it's not going to work for a lot of people, but a blanket statement that it's "the worst thing an addict can do" is also wrong (IMO). Some of us wouldn't be here if not for that little Dixie cup of 'juice'.
